Derek Markham, Prolific Environmental and Natural Parenting Author to Join Twilight Earth

Derek Markham

While doing some freelance writing for another website, I ran across Derek Markham’s work. What’s the first thing that impressed me about him? Not only his writing ability, but his sense of purpose and his integrity towards living what he believes in.

Check out part of his Bio:“We just finished our own family experiment in lifestyle design, living for almost six years in one 8 by 15 foot room. We hauled all of our water, used a sawdust toilet, had a solar shower for washing up, and we had two unassisted births during that time (one under the stars, and one in a tipi). Don’t try it. (Just kidding- you’ll never truly understand cabin fever until you’ve experienced 2 adults, two kids, and a cat in 120 square feet, during single digit temps in January!)

The Internet can be a big place, but for those of us with a passion and prolific motivation for making a difference, it becomes a smaller and smaller place, until you start running into the same people in the same circles. Some of these people you choose not to associate yourself with. Those within the green community that write about the environment with the aim of becoming filthy rich, or those who write about one thing and live the other. But Derek is different. He doesn’t just walk the walk, he dances the dance, and lives the life.

Derek’s strong point is that he doesn’t write about who he would like you to be, he writes about who he is, and that’s all I needed to see, to ask him aboard this crazy train.

Derek will be partnering up with me on January 1st, 2009 and I told him that he can write about whatever it is that he feels like writing about. We’ll be keeping the Sunday through Saturday theme going, along with working on our list of Environmental Topics, but you may see some other cosmetic changes as Twilight Earth gets bigger and better.

For those of you who know Derek, I hope that you will welcome him and keep up with his exploits here at Twilight Earth. For those of you who don’t, you are in for a treat.

Where else can you check out his work? Well, he is writing for Eco Child’s Play, which is dedicated to Green Parenting for Non-toxic Healthy Homes.

Eco Child’s Play is a part of Green Options and under their banner, he also writes for Planet Save.

He is also active at Green Upgrader, where they “help you along your journey to being Green, they bring you interesting and novel products and ideas that can help you live Greener.  The topics they feature will vary levels of eco-friendliness, from Light Green products that only offer minor improvements, to Dark Green items that represent a paradigm shift in sustainable living.”

Adding a “Dad” perspective, Derek also writes for Green and Clean Mom, where he talks about parenting, cooking, news, tips and more.

“API Speaks” launched in April of 2008 as part of Attachment Parenting International’s larger effort to offer interactive content through their newly-redesigned web site: http://www.attachmentparenting.org. Here is an example of Derek’s excellent writing and on-target look at natural parenting. “This Father is Not a Mother.”

He is also actively involved with Care 2. Care 2 provides powerful tools to make a difference in our lives, communities, countries and world. It’s driven by passionate people, and the sense of community is one of the best I’ve seen on the Internet.

As if all this were not enough, he maintains his own personal website at Natural Papa.
